You should definitely be excited. I can tell you why in 6 simple reasons.
1. It's both clever AND funny. The premise sounds pretty dry any way you slice it: family patriarch George Sr. goes to jail, leaving his son Michael to take over the family business. Zany hijinks ensue. But the writing! The play-on-words style of humor mixes with deadpan delivery to create maximum hilarity. From Tobias' inadvertent innuendos to Michael's resigned exasperation in the face of his family's shenanigans, AD is a testament to fantastic TV writing.
2. It's RIDICULOUSLY quotable. Arrested Development is to TV shows what Mean Girls is to movies. So "I've made a huge mistake" is essentially AD's "You go, Glen Coco!" Some notable others include "I don't understand the question, and I won't respond to it," "Not tricks, Michael, illusions!", "Steve Holt!", "What a fun, sexy time for you," "I am having a love affair with this ice cream sandwich," and "There is always money in the banana stand!"
3. It's a show dedicated to its fans. Arrested Development has never been afraid to go the extra mile. For instance, if you search for anything containing the word "blue" on Netflix, you'll see the infamous blue splotches on the side of the page form Tobias' Blue Man Group venture... and if you click the handprint, you'll be directed to the source of the joke. Their ratings stars on Netflix are also bananas. And if you text "Ann" to 619-344-8325 you'll receive a text saying, "Her?" If you call it, you'll hear "The Final Countdown." That's not even taking into account the multitude of Easter Eggs in the show. DO THESE PEOPLE EVER SLEEP?
4. The flawless cast. How they managed to throw everyone from Jason Bateman to Michael Cera into the blender and come up with such a fantastic bunch of dysfunctional characters simply defies logic.
5. The running gags. A lot of people say that Arrested Development acting as a serialized network comedy is what led to its downfall. It was a show you had to watch consistently to follow the plot; otherwise you'd be wondering why the hell there's a man hiding in the attic and what's the deal with Annyong. It may not be entirely accessible to the casual viewer, but why wouldn't anyone want to watch every single second of it? Some of the best recurring jokes include the Literal Doctor ("He's going to be all right...Yes, he's lost his left hand. So he's going to be all right"), J. Walter Weatherbottom and his life lessons ("And that's why you always leave a note!"), and the Bluth family chicken dance ("Has anyone in this family ever even seen a chicken?").
6. The BEST SCENES. From Tobias and the overzealous fire sale audition to the whole "DEAD DOVE: Do Not Eat" thing, they're all pretty much iconic. If we had to choose a scene that would sum up Arrested Development, it'd be George Sr.'s funeral. Either that or the intervention for Lucille that turned into one of the Bluth family's better parties.
